I am on probation.. I am banned from social media while on probation. I appealed and asked to use FB again. I found out about Facebook today.. I feel so betrayed.. My probation officer said that she would approve it. She denied it and wrote a letter about it. I don’t know what the letter said but the form she checked off deny and wrote see attached letter. I don’t know why she hates me so much or what she wrote in the letter. Why is she so two faced towards me? I want to cry. I have been doing so well. I am afraid she will try to put me in jail just because she has that power.

As long as you don’t violate the terms of your probation she has no right to ask for to be arrested. I would be happy to chat with you about it if you wish. I know how stressful things like this can be.

I also live with mental illness and this is really getting to me.. it seems the only way to get away from all of this is to end my life. I’m in therapy and getting help so don’t worry.. I just am having a difficult time with this. :(

I am a retired parole officer and know probation and parole law. She added an addendum to your supervision to not use social media. The only way a probation officer can violate probation is with evidence of social media use and as long as you comply you should be just fine. She can’t threaten all she wants but cannot do a damn thing as their power is a lot more limited than you think. Some POs unfortunately are on a power trip but please do not let this person get to you.

I guess what I’m wondering is why would she lie to me about approving it when she denied it?
I’m also supposed to pet sit out of state.. she said she would approve it. I can only be gone 15 days but I would be gone 21 and she said she would send another form while I am there to fill out and send back.. but I’m afraid she will forget on purpose and then I will be arrested. : /

As a typical human with shortcomings, sounds like she lied as this may be her habit. POs deal with so many people they oftentimes become detached to the human aspect of their jobs. If you have been generally compliant, then she has no grounds to have you arrested so don’t worry.

if she forgets to send the form then she can. and I’m afraid she will forget to send it. : / she also talked badly about me to my therapist. I don’t know why she is one way to me and talks badly behind my back. I wish she was up front. now I don’t trust her and am scared of what she could do.. I am hoping to bring my mental health worker with next time.. have clients done that? brought another party? my po expects me to be like everyone else.. I’m not everyone else but to her I am. : /

jenny, I would suggest you are very open with her about her mental health issues. I don’t know if the law permits another person that is not court ordered to be in with you during your visit, but I would speak with her about it first. She can ask for you records from your therapist if you sign a letter of consent. Again, I would be happy to chat with you about your concern in more detail. I would be happy to work a deal out with you for payment if that is the issue. I have a great track record if you check my reviews. I’d honestly hate to see you stes over this.
