Antara Tarocchi (antaratarocchi)

The veil is thinning. With Halloween right around the corner, we arrive at the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice. This is a time when the boundary between the spirit world and our own becomes more permeable, and subtle energies that are usually hidden become more accessible. The spirits draw closer, and cultures across the world honor this sacred moment in their own unique ways, celebrating the dead, offering gratitude, and connecting with the abundance of spiritual energy available at this time. Halloween as we know it today is the result of centuries of cultural fusion. Its origins trace back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Samhain marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, a liminal time when the veil between the living and the dead was believed to be at its thinnest. In Wales, this festival was called Nos Galan Gaeaf, or the “Night of the Winter Calends,” and included rituals to honor the dead, protect communities from wandering spirits, and mark the seasonal shift. Over time, Samhain traditions merged with Roman festivals such as Feralia, a day to commemorate the dead, and with Christian observances like All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, creating the rich, layered holiday we celebrate today on October 31. The result is a blend of harvest celebration, remembrance, and recognition of the cycles of life and death. Though the ancients observed this day around November 7, the true midpoint of the seasons, it has come to be celebrated on October 31. As we approach this turning point, psychic abilities heighten, and the spirits are more eager to connect with us. It is a perfect opportunity to pause, slow down, and reflect on those who came before us, the lessons they shared, and the ways they continue to influence our lives. You may wish to create an altar, decorate it with photos of beloved ancestors, add harvest decorations and candles, or include objects and mementos that hold personal meaning. Taking a few moments to honor the spirits who have touched your life can be a deeply grounding and healing practice, reminding us of the ongoing cycle of life, death, and renewal. This is not a season of fear, but a season of reverence, reflection, and gratitude. It is a time to honor the great cycles of nature and life itself, recognizing the gifts of the season and the passage of time. Halloween also aligns with the final harvest in the pagan calendar, a celebration of all that has been given and gathered during the warmer months. By embracing this energy, we open ourselves to insight, inspiration, and connection.
